How It Went On
by unbekannt_und_doch_echt · 31 October 2026 · Biography & Memoir
The author recounts her long road after being raped by cousins: the betrayal of her partner, support from a church worker, and the courageous decision to go to the police, which led to a conviction. Despite her mother blaming her and a family estrangement, she rebuilt her life. She closes with pride in her own resilience and words of encouragement for others in difficult situations.
After long deliberations, weeks of doubt, what do I do, what should I do — My partner broke up with me with the words "what am I supposed to do with a broken woman," he gave me nothing but accusations instead of being a support to me. After further months of self-doubt, I then went to a woman who worked at a church. I only knew her from exchanging greetings, but I saw no other way out — I had to talk to someone who didn't know me or my family. She was a very great support to me during that time. She was simply there and listened to me without blaming me, she also didn't pressure me to file a report, she was simply there. After further months, I decided to speak with the police. I became aware of what that would entail and how it would break me again to have to tell everything once more. But I had to do it because the cousin had become the father of a girl — I simply wanted to protect her. It was truly a shit time, I can tell you that. I also found myself a therapist, and she was really able to help me. After months, after many statements to the police, my rapists admitted to what they had done to me, and it also came out that they had done the same to friends of mine. Both were sentenced to 9 years. I felt relieved to some extent, but my mother told me I had destroyed the family, ruined everything. She continued to blame me even though everyone had seen the evidence. Since that time I have had nothing to do with the "family," and I have to say I am doing well. In the meantime my mother has also passed away. Yes, I was sad — she was my mother — but somehow there is no missing her, and now I have this feeling again that I am broken because I don't really miss my mother. I have been told so many times that I am understood, but my siblings — they don't understand. When it came to the inheritance and I said I wanted nothing from the house, the property, or the money, I was once again the bad, wicked child in their eyes. But hey, I'm doing well. I have survived everything and I am so proud of myself. There were so many low points in my life, so much was done to me, but I made it! I'm here, I have my life, my children, my husband, my house — I made it, and I'm excited to see what life still has planned for me.
