What can I do? I ask, beset by doubt,

The world has built a high and narrow wall;

Each duty calls; I fear I'll fail them all,

I wonder if I dare to venture out.

The noise of should and must rings all about,

Yet still I hear the world demand it all;

I fear that one misstep will mean my fall,

I ask which burdens I can live without.

Then comes the turn: I trust my searching mind,

I keep within my heart a steady flame;

One choice at last can shape a brighter day.

I learn what paths my own resolve can find,

And earn through work the right to claim my name;

I move within my bounds, yet find my way.
