Linda has said for 28 years: more patience for machines than people. Bill stopped arguing — she's never been wrong about anything important. His counter: machines and people have a lot in common, only machines tell you directly what's wrong. She reads over his shoulder. Says: that's literally my point.
My wife Linda says I have more patience for machines than for people, and she's been saying this for twenty-eight years, and in twenty-eight years she has never once been wrong about anything important, so I've stopped arguing the point.
What I'd say if I were going to argue it: machines and people have more in common than she's giving credit for. They both tell you when something's wrong if you pay attention. They both need maintenance. They both have a particular sound when everything's running right that's different from the sound when something isn't. The difference is that machines tell you what's wrong directly and people make you figure it out, which I admit is a reasonable basis for a preference.
