by unbekannt_und_doch_echt · 30 October 2026 · Biography & Memoir

The author grew up in a small village with an extended family that appeared idyllic on the surface, but was repeatedly abused by her cousins over several years starting at age five or six. The trauma was suppressed until she was 18, when memories resurfaced, and she reported the abuse to police despite her mother's dismissal and accusations of destroying the family. Today she is married with five children and has built a life of her own.

Maybe nobody who reads these lines knows me. Maybe it will always stay that way. But behind these words is a person with a story, with memories, feelings, mistakes, hopes and thoughts. I want to start sharing a little of that here. Not perfectly, not prettied up, just real.

My life started in a small village, so typically village, everyone knew everyone. Actually I have very many beautiful memories of that time, but at the same time also one of the worst things that can happen to a person. I grew up with 5 brothers, 1 sister and 2 cousins. We all lived together, grandparents and us, it was a wonderful time. My grandpa and my father went to work, my grandma and my mother took care of us children, the garden and also the animals. We had everything we could ever want. But what sounds so wonderful unfortunately wasn't. I was abused multiple times and over the course of years by both of my cousins. I was 5 or 6 when it started. At first it was simply a little bit of "cuddling" and "stroking" but as you can imagine it didn't stay that way. I was still a small child and had no idea what was happening to me. I remember that I drew my mother a picture in which my cousin was lying in bed with me, she ignored it and said nothing more. Years later I wanted to talk to her about it again and she just said that I was imagining it and I should stop telling stories like that. After I got my first period it stopped, nobody came to me anymore. Over the years I suppressed it so much that I had forgotten it. When I then moved into my first own apartment at 18 and my boyfriend at the time said to me let's try doing it that way, once isn't so bad, all those suppressed memories came flooding back. I was completely devastated. Everything came back to me, including every word my mother had said. I went to the police and filed a report, when my mother found out she just said to me that I would be destroying the family. But it only destroyed my relationship with my mother, which was never the best to begin with.

But today, today I'm doing well, I'm married, I have 5 children and we have a small but lovely house.

I think that was enough from me for today.

Nice that you read a part of my life.
