De Kleine Prins

Paul has had his copy of De Kleine Prins since he was seven. The cover holds only by yellowed tape. He never drew in it — respect, for whatever reason. He's never been certain what it means, but certain each time it means something. That's rare. He keeps it for that reason.
The book is called De Kleine Prins, which you know as The Little Prince. I've had my copy since I was seven. The cover came off at some point, probably around 1993, and I repaired it with tape that has since gone yellow and is now structural — without the tape the book would fall into sections. The illustrations are clean because I never drew in books as a child, which I think was a kind of respect, though for what exactly I couldn't tell you. For the object? For the person who made it? For some future self who might want it unmarked?
I've read it maybe eight times. I'll probably read it to the twins when they're old enough, which according to Saint-Exupéry is any age. I've never been certain what it means — the full meaning, the complete thing — but I've been certain each time that it means something. That's a rare quality in a book or in anything. I keep it for that reason.
